Scenic Route from Monument Valley to Colorado

Left the campground around 10:00 a.m.  We hated to leave this place because of the wonderful views we had but we had to move on.   We took 163 north to 191 south and back into Arizona; then 160 east into Colorado to Cortez,   We were pleasantly surprised to find the same beautiful scenery we have been having in Northern Arizona.  All the routes were two laned but the traffic was light and we made good time.

This should look familiar to anyone who remembers the Tom Hanks' movie "Forrest Gump."  In the movie Forrest begins a big run that takes him across the country.  He runs for over three years when finally  he reaches this point, he says, "I'm pretty tired.I think I'll go home now."

This is Mexican Hat.  The top piece is the sombrero  sitting on a man's head.  The town nearby this rock formation is also called Mexican Hat.

We arrived at Cortez KOA around 1:00 p.m.  We have a nice level site which overlooks the mesas.  We have camped here before and I don't remember it being so nice.  We are in site #10.  We have met our next door neighbors.  They are from Chicago and in spite that, they are very nice.  They have a neighbor in Chicago who recruits for Millikin so he was familiar with Decatur.  The neighbors on the other side of them are very nice.  They are from New York.  We got set up and while Carol was cleaning windows, I walked Sandy.  The dog walking area is unbelievable.  The city of Cortez has a three-acre dog park that is shared with the KOA.  There is a nice wood chip walk to the dog park.  I don't think most dogs even realize they are enclosed in fencing because it is so big.

Our site.  After a late lunch/early supper. we are relaxing.  Carol is sitting in the passenger seat of the RV, reading and enjoying the view.  I am trying to get my blog done so I can relax too.  We plan to watch Forrest Gump tonight and watch for the road we were on today.  We are here for two days.  Tomorrow we plan to go to Mesa Verde.  It is only supposed to get up to 63 tomorrow so we are in much cooler temperatures.  We certainly don't mind that
