From Snowy Flagstaff to the Mojave Desert

After listening to the weather forecast, we felt sure we would see some snow this morning when we woke  up and we did.
Not only did we have a couple inches of snow the temperature was 32 with a north wind blowing.  Since I did not have a winter coat, I dressed in layers....five to be exact.

First snow of the season for the car.  Last night we had unhooked our sewer and water in preparation for the cold.  The KOA tractor came by and cleared the camping lanes so we decided to pack up and head out getting on the road by 8:15 am.

We discovered that by 15 miles west of Flagstaff, there was no show.

We made it to Needles KOA by 1:00 p.m. and are in spot #3.  This is our view.  It is a good level spot close to the restrooms.  We cannot hear the instate which is always a plus.

Needles and this KOA sit on the edge of the Mojave Desert.  Notice the palm trees in this photo.

Carol's old Air Force friend, Dan, has a house in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.  We spent some time with he and his wife Linda when we visited Klamath Falls, Oregon last fall.  They have a house in Lake Havasu City and Dan was there in October so we made plans to visit him.

After "catching up" we drove to see the London Bridge.  Dan told us that England put the bridge on the market in the early 1960's because it really was falling down.   Robert McCulloch (of McCulloch Chainsaws) purchased the bridge.  Each brick was marked to indicate their arch span, row number and position and packed in crates.   The crates were sent to Lake Havasu and reassembled.  The bridge was dedicated on October 10, 1971.

Two old men on a bench, Dan and Carol.

The bridge flies both the American and British flags.

We ate supper together at a Mexican restaurant which overlooks the bridge.

Sunset at Lake Havasu City, Arizona.  Dan says that nearly every day, there is a beautiful sunset.

This morning we wore several layers of clothes to keep warm and when we arrived at Needles, we had to shed those layers.  The temperature here was 71.  Oh, so nice.  I am hoping that tomorrow and for a week or so, I can wear sandals, short pants, and t-shirts.  We have the windows of the camper open and are enjoying a breeze and cooler temperatures. Tomorrow we head for the San Diego area.  We got a glimpse of gas prices because Needles is in California.  If I am not mistaken, gas is over $4.00 a gallon.  Dan says everything is high in California.  Thankfully, we are only spending one week in California.  Tomorrow begins our sixth week of travel.  I began planning this trip in January and thought September 12 would never get here and now we are beginning our sixth week!
