Day Twenty-one: Around Town in the Rain

The weatherman was correct when he predicted rain last night and today.  It began to rain about 3:00 a.m. and with the exception of a few short breaks, it has rained all day.  The news from Phoenix is torrential rain causing flooding.  Fortunately, Flagstaff is at a higher altitude and also has received a lesser amount of rain.  I was lucky to get a break so I could walk Sandy.  John commented to me that did I ever dream that I would be affected by a tropical storm on my trip in Arizona.  I certainly did not.  Hurricane Rosa in the Pacific Ocean turned into a tropical storm and its path took it to the heart of Arizona.

Our original plans were to go to Sedona today; however, the rain changed those plans.  We didn't think we would be able to enjoy the scenery in that canyon.  We are so glad we made it to The Grand Canyon yesterday.  We stayed in the motorhome until 10:00 a.m.  I had found that there was an antique shop in the mall just down the road from the KOA so we decided to check it out.  This mall is similar to Hickory Point in that there are vacant spots and the Sears is going out of business in this mall.  It did have an actual food court.  We found the antique shop but their merchandise was too high class for us so we didn't go in

I had some postcards to mail so we looked up the post office.

We needed gas and found this station with a bargain price for this part of Arizona.  We had heard on the radio that the upper quarter of Arizona had the highest prices in the state.  We have found that to be true.  In Tucson the price was around $2.55.  In Flagstaff the prices range from this to over $3.00 a gallon.

We looked on the internet for a Route 66 Museum.  Some of the bigger towns have museums and since Route 66 goes right through the heart of Flagstaff, I thought maybe there would be a museum.  I was wrong.

We ended our trip with a stop at Walmart.  Half of their parking lot had covered parking spots.  Of course, they are farther from the entrance so I am not sure it is worth it.  I guess if it were snowing, your car windows wouldn't have to be cleared when you finished shopping.

After we left Walmart we went back to the KOA and spent the rest of the day hibernating.  We are staying at this KOA when we come back through in two weeks so we asked what site they had assigned us.   It was a site in this row so we knew we did not want to be there.  We were given a list of sites open so we were able to choose where we will be next time we are here.

The forecast calls for lows in the 40's tonight so it will be cool sleeping.  Tomorrow we only have 130 miles to go to the next campground.  We can take our time packing up which is a good things because it will be wet packing up.  Tomorrow we should be camped outside Monument Valley.
