I-40 through the Mojave Desert

Sandy and I were up at 6:00 hoping to see a beautiful sunrise.  This was not spectacular but it was pretty.

Sandy watching the sunrise.

I-40 west goes through the Mojave Desert.  It is amazing to see huge rock formations and mountains rise from the desert floor.  The landscape was constantly changing shapes and colors.

At Barstow, California, we got on I-15 south and then the fun began.  I don't really mean fun because driving in five to seven lanes of traffic is not fun.  Our GPS told us to take I-115 so we dutifully followed the GPS.  I am so proud of Carol and how he kept his cool for miles of bumper-bumper traffic on several lanes.   How do these Californians drive in this traffic day after day?  I couldn't do it.  When we finally made it to Pechanga RV Resort, we were so relieved and glad.  After setting up, we sat in our lawn chairs and tried to recover from the stress of the previous hours.  Are we crazy to be here?  We are approximately 50 miles to either San Diego and Los Angeles.  This campground is like a tranquil island in the midst of a swirling vortex and traffic.
This is site G3.  All sites are concrete pad with real grass between each site.  We have two trees on our site.  The temperature was 70 degrees and the sky was cloudless and blue.  The whole property is a casino with a campground, golf course, hotel, and several restaurants.  We want to go anywhere on the property, all we need to do is call for the courtesy van to pick us up and take us there.  It is very, very nice.  It will help us recover from the stress of getting here.

Here is Sandy checking out the grass.  She has not been on grass since we left Decatur.  Tomorrow we will go to Joshua Tree National Park and Friday and Saturday, we will go into San  Diego.  We will get back into that traffic but this time we will be in the car.  Hopefully, it will be less stressful.  The weather forecast for the next three days is 70 degrees and sunny.  I call that perfect.
