Heading for Big Bend National Park

On the road by 9:45 on Texas Route 118 south to Alpine, Texas.  We wanted to get gas before we drove down to Big Bend.  The scenery was very nice.

From Alpine we drove south on Texas Route 118 and watched the changing scenery. The road  was only two-lane but there was not much traffic.  Parts of the road was very steep with 35-40 MPH speed limits.  We were very thankful when we finally reached Lajitas, Texas and our campground for the next five nights and four days.

This is the view from our site.

Site #34, Maverick Ranch RV Resort.

Another view from the site.

After we got set up and unloaded the car, we decided to drive and see what things looked like.  It was beautiful.  If it is this beautiful outside Big Bend, what will Big Bend National Park look like??

This is a picnic area on the highway we were on.

The first sunset here was not spectacular but was muted.  This area prides itself on being a "dark sky community,"  so we are looking forward to some star-filled skies at night.  In the camp, all outside lights must be off by 9:00 so that the skies won't have any conflicting lights from the camp.

This may seem like a strange thing to take a picture of but it is a wonderful thing because it is the internet.  I am able to connect to the outside world on my blog with this little devise.  It is on a pole right outside my window so I get a strong signal.

Tomorrow we begin our exploration of the Big Bend area.  We are looking forward to seeing all the beauty God created in this part of Texas.
