Moving in Day

Everyone chose to sleep in this morning.  About 7:30 Carol, me, and Keegan went downstairs to eat.  It was a good breakfast:  biscuits and gravy, fried eggs, sausage patties, potatoes, rolls, fruit, cereal.  There was something for everyone.  Finally around 10:30 the others stirred and we went to Target to pick up a few more things for the apartment Hunter would be moving into.

After Target shopping, we had lunch at Noodles and Company.  We don't have one in Decatur but Springfield has one.  It was very goodl.
After lunch, everyone but Hunter went back to the motel to rest.  Hunter went to his new apartment to help one of his roommates move in.

After rest in our room, we went to Hunter's apartment to unload our trunks and the back of Jason's truck.  Parking was a premium but after driving around the lot a few times, empty spaces finally appeared.

This is one of the several fraternity houses on the campus.

This is the Jack Trice Football Stadium.
Who is Jack Trice you ask?  Jack Trice was the first African American football player at Iowa State University.   In 1923 Jack Trice was a starter for the ISU football team.   On October 6, 1923, Trice and his Iowa State teammates played against the University of Minnesota.  On the night of the game, Trice got to stay at the same hotel as his teammates but he could not eat with them in the dining room.  In the third quarter, while attempting to tackle the Minnesota ball carrier, Trice ended up on his back and was trampled by three Minnesota players  Trice claimed to be fine, but he was not able to stand and was removed from the game.  The dotdors declared him fit to travel and he returned by train to Ames with his teammates.  On October 8, 1923, Trice died from hemmorrhaged lungs and internal bleeding as a result of injuries sustained during the game.  As a result of the controversy around the play (was the trampling an accident or intensional) and his death, Iowa state would refuse to play Minnesota for 66 years.  In 1989, they resumed playing Minnesota.

This is the building Hunter's apartment is located.  His apartment is on the seventh floor.  Each apartment unit consists of four bedrooms with attached bath and a common living area of a kitchen and living room.

Moving in.  The door on the right leads to the common living area, the door in the middle is his bathroom, and the door on the left is a large closet.

We spent several hours unloading the vehicles and transporting everything into his room.  We stopped to eat about 8:00 p.m.  Carol and I and Kara went back to the motel while Jason, Hunter, and Keegan returned to the apartment to assemble a shelf unit and try to get his bedroom into liveable condition.

Today was a long day and I think just about everyone was tired but it is a good tired.  We met two of the three other young men who will be sharing the apartment.  They were both very nice.  Hunter is very excited to be out of dorm life and live in an apartment.  His classes begin on Monday so he has a few days to finish unpacking and organizing his room.  We hope to stop by there tomorrow morning before we head back to Decatur.
