Moved in and Home

This post has a double entry. It will be about Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday:  We were able to do what we came to Ames and Iowa State University to do - move Hunter into the apartment he will be living in this school year.

This is the common living area of the apartment.  It contains a living room, dining area, kitchen and laundry.  There are four bedroom/bathrooms arranged like the spoke of a wheel around this common area.  Hunter's room is the open door off the living room.

Thursday:  Traveling back to Illinois.

Thursday morning we left Hunter to experience his second year of college.  We love his new apartment and know this will be a great year for him.  On the way back to Ilinois, we stopped at The Shed for lunch.    It is like Davenport version of Cracker Barrell...old-time country atmosphere and down-home food.

The entrance to the Shed (or as we previously knew it, "The Machine Shed."

Carol dated himself when he told me that this is the model he used when he worked for his uncle in the 1960's.  It is nothing fancy.  There is no air conditioned cab with a radio and comfort.

The waitresses wore bib overalls and checked shirts.  Here they are singing Happy Birthday to a customer.

The lamp at our booth.

Carol's meal was, of course, fried chicken, veggies, and mashed potatoes and gravy.  Before the main coarsed they served slaw, fried apples, bread, and a slice of oatmeal bread.  Drinks were served in mason jars.  The food was delicious.

Below is a car that was parked by our car in the parking lot.  I am not sure I have ever seen such a dirty car.  Notice the rocks in the trim under the black trim of the car.  How could all those rocks get into that area?

Illinois had a huge windstorm before we left this week.  It was so strong that it did a lot of damage to a solar farm outside of Moroa.

This is a picture of the building in which Hunter will be spending this next school year.
Parking is limited in the lot located under the building.  The covered parking lot for the Memorial Center is only a couple of blocks away and he has a spot there for the year.

We had a great trip spending time with the family, seeing where Hunter will be living, and just getting away from the routine.  On  Wednesday, August 25, we will be taking a week away from our normal routine to go to a large flea/antique market near St. Joseph, Missouri and visit Oklahoma City.  Again, we are sliding ourselves into the new way to travel...shorter trips by car.
