Day 2, Part 2: Monuments at Night

This tour left from our campground, Cherry Hill Campground.  Cherry Hill is a beautiful place with well-spaced sites and amenities to satisify any camper.  One of those amenities is the opportunity to take several tours into Washington.  We choose the Monuments at Night Tour.

Pentagon in the sunset hours.

Row houses that we passed.

This is a church that closed its doors during Covid and never reopened.  It is now filled with small, unique shops.

This little row house has less than 1,000 square feet and sold for $3.5 million dollors a few weeks ago

The Capitol.  We were told that the flags (they are very, very tiny) flying on each end of the building indicate the Senate and House of Representatives are in session when the flags are flying over their chambers.

The White House

The Marine Corps Monument of the flag raising over Iwo Jima.
Below and above are pictures of the Jefferson Memorial.

The Lincoln Memorial

Carol and I relied on Hunter and Keegan for pictures inside both the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorial.  We opted out of climbing the stairs to the top.  It was getting dark, no rails, and since my fall, I have felt uneasy on steps.  Thanks Hunter and Keegan for the photos.

There was a beautiful full moon on the night of the tour.  This was taken from the Lincoln Memorial.

The Washington Monument.  We could not get tickets to take the elevator to the top of the monument so we enjoyed it from the bottom

This photo is the trifecta....The Capitol, Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial.

The Korean War Memorial.

The Korean War Memorial.  This is a favorite of Carol and I.

The Vietnam War Memorial

We really enjoyed the tour; however, there was a parade for the Army's 250th birthday scheduled for Saturday, June 14.  Semi-truck, after semi-truck loaded with fencing and concrete barriers filled the streets causing a problem for the tour buses to make their route.  We were not able to see the WW II Memorial, Martin Luther King, or FDR Memorials because of street blockages.  Our driver (Carl) and the guide (Larry) did their best to show us as much as they could.  Both men were very funny and we had a great time.

Screenshot of my Pacer app shows 14,007 steps, 6.1 miles.  Hey for me!!
