Southern Georgia Where Cotton and Dollar Generals Are King

This morning dawned as a beautiful day, sunny and comfortable temps.  We wanted to get on the road early and we were pulling out of the camp at 8:15.  We drove west on I-26 to South I-95 and then took US-82 west.  US-82 is a four-laned highway.

We enjoyed the State of South Carolina.  Its state tree is the palmetto palm and you can see them everywhere.  The tree is on their flag.  I think the interesting thing about the tree is the trunk.  The trunk looks like it is woven like a basket.

As we drove west on US-82 the sun plagued Carol and he finally came up with this unusual way to wear his cap to solve that problem.

We enjoyed driving off the interstate.  The highway drove between fields of cotton and through small towns that no longer had a business district but had a Dollar General.  It is sad to see the storefronts in the towns.  Dollar General is meeting a need for these small towns.  It was very relaxing but it probably took a little longer time-wise.  Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses or in other words, drive the back roads and see the country-side.

We are camped at Americus KOA at Brickyard Plantation.  It will be a very quiet because we are miles from the interstate and major highways.  The campground is on a golf course.  I don't know which came first the golf course or the campground.  The campground hosts are very friendly and helpful.  I was told that the washing machines are free to use but the dryer require quarters  How about that?

We have a full moon
