Day 1 - Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska

As is always the case, the night before we leave on a trip, we don't sleep well and get up early.  Today was no exception.  We pulled out of our driveway at 5:15 a.m.  We decided to take Interstate 72 from Decatur to Hannibal, 36 across the top of Missouri, Interstate 29 at St. Joseph, Missouri, Route 2 to Lincoln, Nebraska and then get on one of the busiest interstates...I-80.   Originally we had planned to stop at a KOA in Omaha but because we were ahead of schedule, we made it all the way to Windmill State Recreation Area near Kearney, Nebraska.

We have camped here before and like the park.  The sites are well-spaced with lots of trees.  The only drawback is that it is so near to the interstate that we can really hear the truck traffic.  When we were here the last time, the park had 5 or 6 different windmills on display around the park.  This year there is only one.  We really enjoyed looking at them when we took our evening walks.  It will be nice sleeping tonight.  The temps should get down into the 50's.  We think that we are in the same site as the last time we were here...site 62.  There are 70 sites but only 10 are filled.  We will be here three nights.

Sandy has been a good traveler but she was very glad to get here and stretch her legs.    We drove 600 miles and got here at 5:30 p.m.  There is not much else to report but my journals always contain the trip statistics so you will have to suffer the boredom of the report

Goodnight for now.
