Out with the South and in with the North (Dakota)

We hooked up the car and were on the road by 8:00 a.m.  We loved being at this campground and if we were ever to be back in the Badlands, we would definitely camp here.
This was our spot at the Badlands KOA.

We finally got back on I-90 heading east.  Our goal was to find a big rig friendly gas station and then leave the interstate on US 85 which is two-laned and going north into North  Dakota.  This is what US 85 looks like.  The mileage between I-90 and the North Dakota state line was 100 miles.  We only had two or three vehicles pass us and we hardly met any incoming traffic.  About half of the 100 miles was smooth and the other half bumpy.  There was only one town of any size.  Most of the highway was just stretches of flat road as far as your eye could see.

Once we crossed the state line, the fields seemed greener and cattle more plentiful.

Besides cattle we saw several oil wells like this one.

In some cases, there were two and three pumps right beside each other.

We are camped at North Park Campground in Dickinson, ND.  This is a strange campground.  It is a combination of long-term RV spots,  short-term RV spots, and manufactured homes.  There weren't many campgrounds to choose from in this area and this one had the best reviews so here we are.  It felt hot when we got here but by the time we had set up and settled down, we were able to sit outside comfortably.

Tomorrow we will go to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
