Off to Turkey Run

We have spent the last three days packing up the motorhome for our annual trip to Turkey Run.  This morning we only had a few last minute things to pack up so it was a relaxing morning.  We left home at 10:30 CDT.  We stopped for gas before we got on Highway 36 east.  Traffic was light.  It was mostly grain trucks loaded with the Central Illinois harvest.  We arrived at Turkey Run at 2:00 p.m.  The drive is two hours and fifteen minutes.  We are camped in a new spot - Number 267.  We have always looked at this spot as a possible "good one."  This year when I made reservations, none of our usual spots were available and #267 was so it was a good time to see if we would like being camped here.  It is a little longer to walk to the bathroom but that will be okay.  I am posting a picture of the map showing our current spot.  I also put X's through other spots we have camped in these last 15 years.  We set up and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was nearly level.  We are back up against the tree line of the park and it is a large spot.  So far, we really like it.

After we set up, we sat outside reading and napping.  It was very pleasant.  I fixed an early supper and after supper we took a walk around the rest of the campground on this side of the valley.  We found the spot in which Shane and his wife are camped.  Let me introduce you to Shane.  When Keegan was about five and camping with us, he went to the restroom.  He was the only one in the restroom until Shane came in.  Keegan was afraid to be there with an adult man he didn't know.  Shane knew that Keegan was afraid so he looked him (and us) to introduce himself and explain that he loved Jesus and would never hurt a kid.  It turns out that Shane is from Harristown, goes to Four Square Church in Decatur, and has camped here for several years (just like us).  Anyway, after that incident, we became "camping friends"  Every year since then we have camped here at the same time and get reacquainted.  We stopped by his campsite and talked for about 30 minutes before heading back to our site.

Hunter called us to let us know when he would be arriving here from Iowa State University.  He will arrive about noon on Thursday and leave Monday morning.  We have told family that we think  this will be the last year that we come to Turkey Run to camp.  Hunter has been camping with us at Turkey Run since he was four and it is a sweet tradition that I think he wants to experience one last time.  Hunter is 20 now so he has camped with us for 16 years.  At least Kara and Keegan (not sure about Jason) will be camping with us this weekend, too.  It will be a great weekend for us as a family.

This map shows our current spot (267) and the X's mark other sites we have camped in over the years.

Look closely and you will see Carol relaxing.  This will be our home for the next two weeks.  It did rain a little bit and may rain tomorrow but the rest of the time, it will be perfect camping weather...70's, sunny during the day and 50's at night.
